FAIRFIELD — Travis Air Force Base is far and away Solano County’s largest employer, with enough workers to populate a small city.
The base estimates its local economic impact is $1.66 billion in 2012, compared to $1.4 billion in 2011. That’s among the reasons local cities and the county work closely with the base and lobby in Washington, D.C., to try to bring the base new missions.
But the county has a variety of other large employers also, far smaller than Travis, but still important to the local economy. They range from school districts to hospitals to biotech companies.
